Dear Bawabatkom readers,
The new year started with a prosperous beginning having rapid developments in the ICT industry that played a prominent role in changing the Kingdom of Bahrain position on the map of technology through its worldwide achievement recognition.
The Kingdom of Bahrain succeeded to fulfill a new achievement in eGovernance and occupy a pioneering new level among all countries of the world. Bahrain is now placed as number thirteenth (13) globally in the United Nations e-Government Readiness Report 2010 were it was previously ranked as forty-second (42) in 2008, advancing twenty-nine (29) positions and surpassed many European and Asian countries.
The report, which is issued every two years by the United Nations, revealed the advent of the Kingdom of Bahrain in the first place at the Gulf and the Middle East level where it was previously in the second place, ahead of all the Gulf states and Arab countries, Bahrain has achieved third place (3) at the Asian level, while it was ranked eighth (8) two years ago, noting that One of the Bahrain eGovernment strategy objectives was to achieve the fifth (5) place for the Kingdom at the Asian level. However, Bahrain exceeded this objective and occupied the third place, long standing Asian countries in technology such as Japan, Malaysia and other countries in Asia.
Following the issuance of the latest United Nations eGovernment Readiness Report 2010, the Kingdom of Bahrain became a center of attention to other countries whom wanted to benefit and exchange expertise as to how such achievements were sustained. The first to visit Bahrain was the Information Technology Authority delegation from the Sultanate of Oman, who were briefed on the experience of Bahrain in ICT and the move towards the eGovernance focusing on the awareness program and mechanism used to facilitate the communications between the citizens and the eGovernment Authority. A description on the eservices to enhance the performance, effectiveness and productivity of the Authority was provided.
The reason behind the successful story is the joint work collaboration process of the ministries and governmental entities in the Kingdom of Bahrain, with its specialized national human resources in the ICT field and the sincere contribution in facilitating the provision of the eGovernment services to citizens and residents by integrating the eservices to the public through the main services channels.
The efforts of the associated parties with the eGovernment Authority is the main reason for achieving these awards today. Proudly this is the outcome of the efforts, perseverance and determination during the past few years, and certainly this is only a step forward towards complementing the remaining services and reaching the main objectives of the eGovernment strategy 2007 - 2010 in providing quality service to beneficiaries through an integrated government.
